Trunking

We were stunned and shaken to receive an email yesterday with information on a deviation from dogfighting in a pit or on the street. We just can not fathom the cruelty of those humans whose humanity has died.

We're not going to beat around the bush or hide it. We're going to publicize it so that those of you who are not presently cognizant of this will become aware and report it if you ever suspect the next blasting music you hear to be a cover-up for this type of horror.

It's called trunking. And you can undoubtedly guess what that means. Two dogs, generally fighting pit bulls, are closed inside the trunk of a car. The music is turned up to cover the sounds of the fight. The car will either remain stationary or be driven around until the fight is over. After 15 to 30 minutes, the trunk is opened.

The dead or dying loser is tossed aside and the winner -- well, what does he "win"? His injuries are undoubtedly never treated. But eventually, if he survives a few more trunkings, he might end up in the pit with big money bet on him. After all, he has a reputation now.

We found a news video with several law enforcement officers being interviewed on the subject. It is worth a few minutes of your time to watch it. For the dogs. They need us to be informed and alert to help them whenever and however we can.

The next time you hear loud music, listen closely. And if you hear or suspect dogfighting, notice as much as possible about the scene. Then call your local authorities with whatever information you could safely gather: make of the car, license number, description of those involved, the location, date and time of the incident, etc.

  1. This is awful.

Since most cities have noise ordinances maybe we can use them to put an end to this. Our Mommy will call in any car playing loud music, so maybe the police will at least stop the car and question the driver.

  2. We found another terrible example. Check out this link http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/10/02/kennel.cruelty.charge.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
How can a state inspect a kennel like this and find it clean and then two months later shut it down for filth. We think this is terrible. We don't like to post this kind of stuff on our blog, makes us sad, but we figured we should at least tell you and Alasandra about it.

  3. OMG that is absolutely horrific! I would like to think that doesn't go on in the UK.. but I guess its not impossible. We do have really strict laws regarding noise and hopefully this would make it impossible for them to practice that kind of fighting but i guess its not out of the question. Thank you for alerting us, as upsetting as it is, we agree its something everyone should be aware of.

  4. That is horrendous. I cannot understand the mentality of the evil people who do such things, or the people who bet on the outcome.

  12. Sometimes I just don't understand the insanity. Humans with no conscience. I read an article today about dog auctions and couldn't believe it....thousands of animals auctioned off in Missouri.....I will pray extra tonight

  19. This is totally terrible and disgusting. Why are some 'humans' so devoid of compassion? They should be subjected to the same conditions as punishment.

  23. This makes us sad but does not surprise us. Some people are born without either a heart or a mind, it seems.

  24. Hello guys, re: my name. I came with the name from the breeder--as I was adopted when I was an adult. The Woman decided not to change it. However, there is a fantasy novel series by Jennifer Roberson that is the Chronicles of the Cheysuli (which is actually a decent series--the Woman went out and read it after adopting me!)

As my breeder's license plate read Hobbit, my mother was Queen Guinevere and my Father was Strider the Ranger, I think it's safe to say she enjoyed fantasy novels... :)

  26. Thank you for leaving a nice comment on my blog. My mommy watched the trunking video and it made her very sad. She never heard of this before, but now she will keep an eye out for the subhumans who may be engaged in this terrible practice. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

  29. I thought I had heard it all until I read this. This is absolutely horrifying. I can't believe the inhumane actions of some people, if that's what you can call them.

Thanks for posting this. I am going to cross post on my blog if that's okay with you.

Great blog you have going here. I thoroughly enjoy it. I'm going to add you to my blogroll!

  30. I despair of humans and their endless invention of ways to abuse animals.

Thank you for the heads up on this Jan, we have not yet heard of it happening in the UK, but I think we probably will soon. There is a lot of dog fighting (for money) happening here these days.

  31. We never heard of trunking and just cannot believe there are humans who make dogs do this. We are totally beside ourselves about this. We will definitely pay attention.
