Mini Pigs and Toxic Foods

We are not calling mini pigs toxic food. Mini pigs aren't intended for food. We just have two unrelated subjects today and they do make an intriguing title. We hope.

Anyway, the latest pet craze appears to be mini pigs. They are promoted as "micro piglets small enough to fit in a teacup." We wonder whether they will have health issues.like other teacup pets do. We hope not, but time will tell.

If you haven't seen this before, enjoy the video.

The Veterinary Technician Schools Online has an article on foods you should not feed your pet.

"Knowing what can harm your pet is the first step in illness and disease prevention. By avoiding harmful substances and foods, your pet will live a longer, healthier life, and your wallet will thank you too for avoiding veterinary bills that could have been prevented with a little caution and care. These 25 common household foods can be lethal to your furry or feathered buddy. Many of these examples are foods that a typical pet owner would never think twice about giving their dog, cat, hamster or bird, but your pets can suffer greatly from things we humans love to eat on a regular basis."

  1. Thanks for the link to the article about toxic food for pets.

We are shuddering about the mini pig craze. The last time pot belly pigs were in a lot of them got dumped in our area when they got big (because their stupid owners over feed them). Said stupid owners apparently thought it was OK to dump the PIG they no longer wanted in a rural area. ~S,S,C & F

  2. The miniature piggies look so cute! I don't know if it'll catch on, but Mom says she can't see piggies as pets just yet...at least not in Malaysia as it's a dominantly Muslim country.

Thanks for the link to the article! Mom has read about this before, but it's a good refresher to know!

  3. I have to admit the little piggies are awfully cute. I'll bet they do not know how to use a litterbox though!

That was a good list; we only recently found out that avocados are dangerous!

  4. Those little teacup piglets are awfully cute. But not anything we want to see become popular around here.

It is always a good reminder to see the toxic food list - thanks for sharing.

  7. Thanks for the link to "25 foods..." it was really informative! As a new pet owner its always good to know what kind of stuff can't be left out in the open.

Not really sure how I feel about the micro pigs tho :S, there are just so mane major problems that are caused by inbreeding . But they really are just adorable!

Looking forward to reading your blog in the future!

  9. Actually, my piglet came already litter box trained and they are fairly easy to house train as well! They are outrageously smart and loving. Not enough people do proper research on them before giving in to their cuteness, which is how many pigs end up abandoned. I urge anyone who is curious about them to do LOTS of research!!! I spent a good 2 years learning about them before I decided it was right for me and I've never regretted the decision.
